There are millions of various websites in the world. They can be personal websites, business websites, government websites or non-profit organization websites. But there is one thing they have in common. They want their websites to be found and known on the internet. But how do you and me find those websites. You may see the urls from an email newsletter, TV, radios, magazines.
But the main source is the search engines. The following names are already familiar to you: AOL, MSN, Yahoo and Google...
When you conduct a search query "snail" in Google for example, you will be flooded with overwhelming search results. What you see is called SERPS, meaning Search Engine Results Pages.
The very first page is the dreamland of every webmaster. The reason is that most searchers rarely click page 2. If they have't found what they need, they would just conduct another search and scan the first result page again.
This cruel reality is where Search Engine Optimization derive from.
